Tambola, often referred to as Tombola, Indian Bingo, or Housie, is a widely enjoyed game thought to have originated in Italy in the early 1500s. Familiar to many, it is a staple at social gatherings, office parties, kitty parties, and community events.

This versatile game can be played in various forms to accommodate different skill levels. The American version of Tambola is known as ‘Bingo’, which features some variations when compared to its Indian counterpart. Players must purchase at least one ticket to participate. The game involves calling out numbers from a range of 1 to 90, with participants marking off those numbers on their tickets. Each ticket consists of 27 spaces organized into nine columns and three rows, where each row contains five numbers and four blank spaces. The configuration may vary slightly depending on the specific rules of the game or its organizers.

The first column usually displays numbers from 1 to 9 (or possibly 10), the second from 10 (or 11) to 20, the third from 20 (or 21) to 30, continuing up to the last column which covers numbers from 81 to 90.

Tambola can also be enhanced by incorporating elements of Italian tradition through the introduction of Italian Tombola. This variant adds festive patterns such as Ambo (two numbers in a row), Terna (three numbers), and the ultimate win of Tombola (a full card), enriching the experience with cultural flair. It elevates gatherings—whether family celebrations or friendly get-togethers—by infusing them with lively energy.

An additional variant worth noting is Tambola 50, or 'T50', which accelerates gameplay by limiting the number range to 1-50. Tickets in T50 consist of five columns: the first displays numbers from 1-10, the second from 11-20, and so forth up to the fifth column which includes numbers from 41-50. Players engage in drawing balls, marking their tickets as numbers are called out. Victory goes to the first player who marks all their numbers in a designated winning pattern, validated by the dealer against the drawn numbers.

The game concludes either when all 90 numbers have been drawn or when a winner has fulfilled all patterns of play.

Winning combinations in Tambola can include:

 <li>Top Line: All numbers on the top row marked fastest.</li>
 <li>Middle Line: All numbers on the middle row marked fastest.</li>

 <li>Four Corners: The first ticket to mark all four corner positions—first and last numbers of both top and bottom rows.</li>
 <li>Full House: The first ticket that marks all fifteen numbers.</li>
</ul>
